SETTING: New Ekron (Ekron)[/b]
a world that has been beset with disaster over the years since the last king died the mist that appeared during his time has gotten worse and has now cut ekron off from the rest of the world.
TIME:[/b]
Unimportant as it is a fictional world, but in a time where swordplay is popular and enchanted items are normal.
ULTIMATE GOAL:[/b]
To find the dig site that leads to beelzebub and quell the curse.
START OF GAME:[/b]
The player is inside the miasma mist that plagues the lands, know knowing why or who he is, waking up terrified he hears the roar of the demons inside and makes a run for it, and somehow breaks free of the mist, slightly hurt but in good shape considering he starts his quest.
BACKGROUND:[/b]
The game will be played mainly outside of old ekron (the one town in the game) new ekron is the only place that is safe from monster fights (even at night) but it is the sole area that the player is safe in, allowing him to rest till morning before setting off. Along the way there will be quests to help various people and in turn they will also join you, once they find out your trying to solve the mystery of the mist. (a man who has lost his wife to the mist, a man who wishes to study the runestones, and a mage like character that has been imprisoned for years.) the gist of the game is to find out why the mist has appeared, and how to stop it (assemble the stolen idol from 3 peices, scattered across ekron and place it back in beelzebubs tomb)
ANTAGONIST:[/b]
High priest who performed rituals to increase the mist for his master Beelzebub that ends up swallowing you in the mist on the verge of setting out to fix the curse, and also Beelzebub himself, although the player only faces him down inside his den his minions come from the dead that have been swallowed by the mist, it could be a frog, it could be a bird, anything that comes out of the mist is slightly changed (usually more vicious then ever) with the sole exception of yourself.
PROTAGONIST:[/b]
A nameless character that you start out with, suffering amnesia you never let on that you are from within the mist as the townsfolk would shun or kill you thinking that your mad, the townsfolk instead assume you are the twin brother to the man who lived in the forest (the one who was swallowed by the mist, the night before you were to leave to survey Beelzebub's den) the reality is you are one in the same and not your brothers brother. although this realization is up to the player to connect.
AREAS:[/b]
area zero (STARTER AREA)[/b]
the starting area that the played exits the mist from the intro in and ends once the player reaches the bridge to town
area one (NEW EKRON)[/b]
the town itself and is completely safe from attack, has npcs to help craft gear using ingredients found off the monsters and also a player character you can recruit using a ladies ribbon. (the man of sorrow)
area two (GRAVEYARD / CRYPT)[/b]
areas where the first boss (the high priest) is waiting at the shrine where he performed the ritual to worsen the mist.. (also hints at that he tried to kill you already for poking around)
area three (FOREST)[/b]
can be gotten to before area two and is directly south of the town, its a forest like area where the local witch resides, also your shack and a note addressed to your brother, the is also the 3rd player character here that you can recruit once u bring him any runestone from area two.
area four (LABYRINTH)[/b]
is an additional labyrinth area that the player can venture to before area five, this will allow the player to outfit himself, get a few rune stones to upgrade his character(s) and also to find the 1st peice of the idol that is required to stop the curse, also would be a good place for the 2nd boss, which is undecided but of course would be something undead (mummy, ghoul, lich etc)
area five (PATH OF MIST)[/b]
can be ventured to before area four (labyrinth) however it is a lot harder to survive here, area five has more then once reason to be there, first it serves as a short hop to the next area, but also has a much longer path that leads to the end game area, of course the only thing stopping the player from going the super long path to the final area is the toughness of the monsters, its important that the player realize that this area is not easy and should be bypassed, there will be a potion in the game that covers your scent for very short period of time, and it will be hinted at that the player should use this method to get through to the old ekron area and avoid the baddies completley for now.
area six (OLD EKRON)[/b]
the ruined golden city of king ekron the 6th, old ekron the town the player first stumbles upon and was originally the slums of old ekron, this area will have the third boss in the game (an EVIL KNIGHT)
the player that tries to do this with just 1 character should have a very hard time even when using all the runestones hes found only on that one character (careful balancing will be required.) once the boss is killed you receive the key to the sky tower. also hidden in this area (not to hidden tho) will be the 2nd idol peice.
area seven (SKY TOWER)[/b]
the tower you ascend for the last piece and also to find out what happened to all the people of old ekron when the disaster struck (obviously they are tainted by the mist and want to stop you as they will be the baddies) it seems they tried to build a huge tower to ascend above the mist, but only sealed their own fate once the town had been encompassed. at the top will be the 4th boss (A FLYING CREATURE) at the very top of the tower, in his nest you will find the 3rd piece of the idol.
area eight (BEELZEBUB's DEN)[/b]
once the player has all pieces and can deal with the monsters of area 5 he can then work his way along the long path till he arrives at the heart of the mist, and ascend down into the final area, this area will be pretty devoid of stuff with some tunnel like passages through the mist, some items will be found in the mist but only a few.
area nine (THE DIGSITE)[/b]
once the player hits the digsite he descends to find the main chamber and once there will fight the true evil that plagues the land, once the idol is positioned on the altar, beelzebub will be revealed and the final battle will begin.
END GAME:[/b]
for the final scenes, i will show overhead map of entire world and it will be drawn with the mist and slowly the mist will be drawn away, the player will be treated to a points score based on how many items were found/used, battles won, hp lost etc... in this way you can compare your adventure with friends or with your previous scores.
GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS:[/b]
Runestones:[/b]
will permamently effect player attributes governing (turn counter, soul points (HP), and spirit points (MP)
Crafting:[/b]
monsters will drop supplies that can be used to craft unique items or general items (potions or torches) there will never be any money in the game, since money off monsters is stupid idea and in a world where doom is comming what is money...
Night cycle:[/b]
monsters will be much more difficult and plentiful at night forcing the player to make descisions on how long to stay out of the town.
Battles:[/b]
will be fought randomly with encounters influenced by the time of day cycle, the battle system will be turn based, with up to 4 player characters and 3 enemys in 1 battle at a time, the player will have magical weapons that can hit every enemy on screen at a cost of SP (sometimes producing another effect such as poison or slow) the enemys will also have debuff abilities (snakes can poison, reapers can terrify, bosses can paralyze with fear etc) most areas past area zero will have 2-3 enemy types, allowing for a more strategic battle experience. there will be no experience system or money in the game. to make battles not just run happy the enemys will usually drop something the player may use to craft another item.
Inventory:[/b]
originally i intended to have 12 inventory spots and later this was expanded to 24, currently i have been thinking of increasing it to 48 slots, however that will come later on once the game is packed full of items (easier to update code once nearly every item is in game)
Graphics:[/b]
16color all the way to 24 bit, regardless of palette the images must be proper dimensions and saved as 24 bit bitmaps, the game consists of a maze view port that shows a first person view of the players surroundings in front of him.
Minimap:[/b]
currently implemented but will be tweaked, i am really thinking of removing it from a button and always having it displayed somewhere on screen, or having it as an overlay that you can leave up or something, regardless this will be in game and will later be adjusted to show less when its night time, and slightly more when a torch is lit but also a lil less then full bright.
if you have any questions or comments for me feel free to ask me, if you need a more elaborate explanation of the game i will do my best to fill in any of the blanks that i left out here (shouldn't be to many) if you want to do graphics for any of the NPCs, MONSTERS etc i will be posting the dimensions up for each asset sometime in near future. thank you for reading my book!
