these are the tweaks i make to my config whenever i first setup my world at war profile, i've used em long enough i have em memorized but i figured i'd post em up so that its here for people to see if they need them.
/dof_enable 0 'turns off depth of field while aiming down sights /cg_drawfps 1 'needed when setting best frame rate /cg_drawlagometer 1 'use while changing maxpackets to determine best setting /cl_maxpackets 100 ' default 30 increases packets sent to server /snaps 30 'server sends your client more refreshes default 20 /mouseaccel 0 'removes mouse smoothing (ingame) may need to also tweak in windows
important: turn off sync every frame in the options menu! it may cause some graphical tearing but its a helluva lot better then the input lag that vertical sync introduces (in all games, not opinion but fact.) also if your fps is stuck at 60 as maximum its because of the vsync so turn it off for more speed
set texture quality to high and the rest to low, this will enable lower detail (higher fps) without blurring the aperture sight.
/com_maxfps 67, 85, 100 (125)
your choice whatever one you can do stable fps (use /cg_drawfps 1 on a big map to find out while u run around)
your maxpackets should mirror the capped framerate (eg 85fps, 85 packets) i dont recommend 67 either since its actually below the fps that is stock (85)

i wanted to also speak on the maxpacket setting and the com_maxfps settings. say if your system ran really slowly, do this:
/snaps 30 /cg_drawlagometer 1 /cg_drawfps 1
if your below 67 (71 fps as it reads on my system when locked at 67) there is literally nothing u can do with the com_maxfps setting or maxpackets...
red fps means that your video is not syncing right and your causing yourself to be sluggish - you need to tweak your pc for speed, upgrade etc... lowering res, turning off shadows all help towards increasing the fps your getting.
do your testing on a medium or large sized map not a small one.. u can get 100 fps on dome dosent mean u get it on banzai... in anycase shoot at 67 fps as very minimum and then match /cl_maxpackets to framerate (85 is much better and is stock only use 67 if 85 is just out of reach)
this will equal out to be a nice even frame reading which means your synced up as good as you can get it.
if the frames are uneven (its below the fps) so if its like 13.345 sometimes and then goes to 13 even.... then your fps is dropping and your not setting the frame rate to be at a stable number, this is an excellent way to gauge if your attempting to set the com_maxfps to high.
things that help fps:
/r_vsync 0 'turns off vsync or sync every frame using console /dof_enable 0 /vid_restart 'to apply the new settings
remember that after changing gfx options you will always need to do a vid_restart.
set texture quality to high and the rest to low, this will enable lower detail (higher fps) without blurring the aperture sight. (this is not fastest setting however but keeps it looking ok the rest can manually be set to low i.e normal maps etc in the texture quality menu.)
shadows off dual video card off bullet holes off etc turning anisotropic filtering to lowest or switching to bilinear may speed things up but not on all cards, some it slows down (newer cards)
the lagometer should be used to monitor for additional yellow ticks, but overall if your fps is stable and at least 85 you wont see more yellow ticks, but its still nice to see if your config is making it spike or worsening sudden lag outs.

With Modern Warfare 1 go into an empty server (any map) and type these 2 settings in to console.
/seta r_lodbiasrigid -1000 /seta r_lodbiaskinned -1000
Before you hit enter, look at a distance then hit enter for lodbiasrigid - sharpens everything up. Then look at a car or any object with a skin before you hit enter for lodbiasskinned - sharpens it up. Lod stands for level of detail. (W@W these settings are locked down - no effect.) No vid_restart needed here. These settings will hold however if you go into graphics options it will reset to default so make sure you have all your options set first or you will have to re-enter these 2 settings.
